The #FeesMust Fall issue has been going on for far too long I could not help but shed a tear when I saw the footage of that Rhodes University scholar being dragged on the road to the police van. That image brought back memories I’ve never experienced but I knew that was wrong and uncalled for. As I was once a pupil, I know the struggles one faces at tertiary let alone indaba se-fees there’s things such a text books , food and day to day school expenditures like going on trips making copies/being able to print your assignments, buying required instruments for the course of one’s choice and yonke lento has to come from disadvantaged homes . One must really think how fortunate they have been to be able to attend (or afforded such an opportunity to) higher learning as some give up at High School as early as grade 10 citing they won’t afford tertiary education so they don’t see a point in wasting their time attempting to study further. People with so much fire and potential drop out of school to look for piece jobs so to assist their families… sad reality!
Two things I know for sure are: One, Fees cannot completely and utterly fall, not in the current state of our economy and being under such MESS of Government administration we are in where it’s all about ones needs (and the squads) as opposed to the nation.
Two, fees can be subsidised and designed to cater for each institution, it’s history, statue and needs.
I guess what I’m trying to ask is, how feasible is the fees must campaign and how should it be implemented or this is one of many ways for politicians settle scores as they seem to be doing minimum to nothing at trying to put a speedily and efficient end to this… Khona why are police quick on arresting protesting students over rapists, murders and corrupt beings who are looting around this country going and doing as they please .
Or are these students are wasting the time they will never regain with this?
Asikhulumeni!
