This past Sunday we attended the first ever The Voice SA live show down in Balfour Park, for most that read our Sunday Shows feature would know how I feel about the show despite my not so good opinion about the show I went. The venue is quite confined, even their audience chairs are tiny and uncomfortable but I don’t know how it all looks watching from home.

02

Coaches: Karen Zoid, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Lira, and Kahn Morbee Parlotones frontman Kahn Morbee.

The judges/coaches (as they like to be called) gave nothing but positive feedback to their talent… I found this unnecessary I mean if a contestant sucks just say it! Infact if the format of the show is not to criticize then what are the contestants and viewers at home are going to learn? criticize and motivate at the same time. That’s not hard, if you ask me. Oh and another thing I feel if abo Karen Zoid struggle to construct and utter an appropriate sentence in English they must be allowed to speak Afrikaans I mean 2016 is almost over and we are in SA (after all) where we have 11 official languages, mabapraate wethu maybe the show’s ratings will soar… the same applies to abo Lira mabakhulume if deemed.

Now to the talent:

03

El Clay, opened the show with Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”, he was all sorts of nervous but I liked his tone of voice.

Clement “Clemour” Ngobeni (24) gave an epic interpretation of Joan Osbourne’s “One Of Us”. I enjoyed his interpretation, his confidence and yonke into nje was spot on… he is actually my favourite of them all but andikho sure nge-age yakhe shem.

20160417_171921Eden Myrrh from Cape Town sang Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”. I don’t know the song but girl was horrible, from her tone to the dress code she was horrible.

20160417_172441

I cant recall what this young lad sang but he managed to get a green light to the finale over Clement *sigh* his name is Richard Stirton van die kaap.

Gavin Edwards also got the green light to the finale.

20160417_173534 20160417_173526

Nolene Olivier selected the Lady Antebellum Country anthem “Just A Kiss.”.. she was flat she screamed through out the beautiful song… she looks like the Melissa from idols kancinci.

20160417_174004Xanilee Hammond sang Brandi Carlile’s “The Story”.LOL woeheeee the only thing I can remember is Lira’ lying saying she was blown away by her shoes. I literally went on a brain freeze. someone please help my asseblief… please balance these shoes for me, are they WOW or NAY?

20160417_174400Lana Crowster messed up a beautiful song, she chose to sing Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)”… I felt she thought she was on Shell Road To Fame!

20160417_181211Then there was Thembeka Mnguni from Durban! she also got the green light. she sang Beyonce’s halo. I’m prone to believing she can sing but over-singing a song is no sign of being a good singer. sister’s over sang that song, she even had the Whitney jaw shaking singing style. Doesn’t she look like Winnie Khumalo?

20160417_182013

When I saw Nadine Sisam I thought she was going to sing a powerful ballad from Celine or Mariah but she sang David Guetta and Sia hit “Titanium” my friend said she should have worn a skirt or something funky… I was not impressed.

20160417_181542

Jonathan Grayson is one of the tones I enjoyed, he  selected Dylan’s classic, “Make You Feel My Love” and he sang it very well. Sadly he didn’t get the green light, I urge fellow South Africans to vote him in, please!

20160417_184916

My entertainment of the night was goes to *drum roll* Robin Pieters who chose to sing Queen’s, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. I think some gays can do this singing thing only if they could stick to one singing tone. Lol

20160417_183135

I did not understand Zoe’s performances maybe it’s because she was emulating Zolani Mahola mixed with Lira and to top it up I don’t like the song and the original singer’s nasal singing style. *pukes*

20160417_183437

To seal off my top 3 favourite is Meyrand Roux who took on the Rodriguez classic “Sugarman”. I enjoyed the authenticity in his husky voice, he wasn’t trying hard he was effortlessly killing.

20160417_184428Busisiwe Mutlaka attempted Kelly Clarkson’s “Because Of You”… not my favourite, but she tried.

04

One guy that got a standing ovation from all 4 coaches but didn’t get the green light, you know why because he completely sucked! his name is Marcel De Almeida, he chose to sing Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”… and to make matters worse his photo came out bad :(

20160417_171115Show hosted by Lungile “Lungsta” Radu.

I must say the show was a complete opposite than what I allowed myself to see on the telly, chances are I will be watching to see if my favourites made it the next round. SA vote for talent!

Thank you to Mnet PR for the invite.
